64 More Weeks

I didn’t get a two log drop on my four week bloods. 1.63 drop so I get to plug along and not have another PCR test until week 24. This makes absolutely no sense to me. However, when I questioned the NP she said…”It’s all I have to offer.”

At least it’s working. My bloods from Oct 19 indicate that my ALT is 28 and my AST is 24 so that tells me that the minor inflammation I had prior to starting tx is now under control.

The NP called yesterday to tell me that my HB dropped from 106 to 104 in two weeks so I hope that it will level off. She was also concerned that my blood sugar dropped. I’m feeling the burn. I took shot eight last night I took a really bad fall a few hours later when I was chasing the kitten so I can no longer trust myself to be sure footed. This morning I feel as if I were pummeled. My neck, shoulders, arm and hand are very sore. I didn't think I was going to bruise earlier today, but it's a deep one on my hand and thumb. I am hoping that it's not visible by the time I go to work on Tuesday. Extremely sore this evening along with needle sides.

It's been quite a ride so far.

We have to keep our humour!

How are your platelets??? If they're low, that could explain the bruising. Can you get Procrit for the low Hgb? Regarding the 72 weeks - too many people have relapsed after only doing 48 weeks, you want to kick this virus in the butt the first time you do treatment, doing 72 weeks dramatically increases your odds of SVR.

The bloods are getting low, but I'm not in the danger zone yet.
Hey, I really whacked my hand so the bruise was one I worked hard to get. LOL

I was chasing the new kitten around trying to get her to behave. I spun out from being dizzy with low hb and low sugar so I learned a bitter lesson. I understand why people accidently break their necks!

No rescue drugs here...NP tell me they won't work...ironically, they seem to work for many on the forum. She thinks I'm stupid. I know that it's all about money.

How was your trip? It looks like you had a great time from your photos.

Before my Procrit Rx was approved by my drug insurance company, I was looking into getting it from Canada, unfortunately it's just as expensive there (I searched on 'Canada drugstore') My trip was great!!! Every time I've met people from the forum - and now I've met 5 in all, it's been great. We're planning a get together in NYC for Dec. 3 - would you be able to come to that?

I expect that I'll get to some sort of gathering someday with the crew from the forum.

Right now I need to battle through 64 more weeks. Then I'll do some travelling.

Treatment has consumed my life.

Hi Rose, I think your NP is a real Bozo! I would get a 12 weeks PCR if I had to pay for it myself. 12 weeks is so important for us

I hear ya, Terry. However, it doesn't work like that here. We have a social health care system and everyone has to wait in line. There is no other lab that I can get the test done and pay for it myself. I asked NP about that and she indicated that there was no way it could be done in our system.

We have to "take what we can get" and this is all she will offer. I thought it was bizarre to leave someone on tx from week four to week 24 without doing a PCR test.

I didn't quite get a 2 log drop at 4 weeks either. I went from 5.2 million to 105 thousand. The good news is that I went undetectable at 8 weeks which puts me into the 48 week range. It's so penny wise and pound foolish not to test at 12 weeks.

I am full eight weeks into this and had shot nine on Friday night. I thought that I would be tested (and was told this at first) at four & eight weeks.

The rules changed when I went in for my four week VL test. I was given a whole new picture of length of treatment and I pretty well had a gut feeling that I was going for 72 weeks when I left as the bar here in Canada is set too high. Apparently, they don't think I will clear if I do not have the two log drop at four weeks. I was gobsmacked as I knew that everywhere else in the world basing a 72 week treatment on one four week VL was bizarre.

The NP is waiting to see if I clear by 24 weeks so she can contact the insurance provider for a treatment extension.

It's a long time to expose someone to tx without knowing that the tx is doing it's job. (four to 24 weeks without a VL)

It's all about them saving money.
